DESCRIPTION
Hyoscine butylbromide is an antispasmodic medicine.
PHARMACOKINETICS
1. Partially absorbed following oral (8%) administration.
2. After intravenous administration hyoscine butylbromide is rapidly distributed (t1/2= 4 min, t1/2=29 min) into the tissues. The volume of distribution (Vss) is 128 L.
3. Excreted in the faeces and in the urine.
THERAPEUTIC USES
1. Used to treat cramps abdominal pain, renal colic, and bladder spasms.
2. It is also used to improve a death rattle at the end of life.
3. It is effective in reducing the duration of the first stage of labour.
SIDE EFFECTS
1. Sleepiness
2. Vision changes
3. Triggering of glaucoma
4. Severe allergies
DRUG-DRUG INTERACTIONS
1. Hyoscine + Aclidinium = Increase in the anticholinergic activities of Scopolamine butylbromide.
2. Hyoscine + Azelastine = Increase in the central nervous system depressant activities of Azelastine.
3. Hyoscine + Baclofen = The risk or severity of adverse effects can be increased.
4. Hyoscine + Botulinum Toxin Type A = increase the anticholinergic activities of Botulinum Toxin Type A.
5. Hyoscine + Itopride = The therapeutic efficacy of Itopride can be decreased.
