Magaldrate -drug for peptic-ulcer

                                                                                                                                                        MAGALDRATE

MECHANISM OF ACTION-
 Magaldrate is a hydroxymagnesium aluminate complex that is converted rapidly in gastric acid to Mg (OH)2 and Al(OH)3 , which are absorbed poorly and thus provide a sustained effect.

USES
1. Ulcer
2. GERD
3. Dyspepsia
4. Heart burn

SIDE EFFECTS-
1. Increase HCl production and Gastrin
2. Acid rebound
3. Mild constipation

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
1. Gastric secretion
2. H 2 blockade

DRUG- DRUG INTERACTION-
Magaldrate + Ketoconazole = decrease absorption of Magaldrate
Magaldrate + Diazepam = decrease absorption of Magaldrate
Magaldrate + Phenytoin = decrease absorption of Magaldrate
Magaldrate + H2 blocker = decrease absorption of Magaldrate 
Magaldrate + Isoniazid = decrease absorption of Magaldrate
