MDMA
MECHANISM OF ACTION-
The primary mode of action of MDMA is as an indirect serotonergic agonist , increasing the amount of serotonin released into the synapse. MDMA acts on the serotonin transporter and is transported into the nerve terminal.
USES-
1. No medical use ; worldwide banned
2. Used in rave parties , clubs
SIDE EFFECTS-
1. Addiction
2. Memory problems
3. Paranoia
4. Teeth grinding
5. Blurred vision
6. Sweating
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION-
It increases the net release of serotonin and possibly dopamine is the major action underlying the distinctive mental effects of MMDA , whereas the increased release of noradrenaline is mainly responsible for the physical effects.
DRUG-DRUG INTERACTION-
MDMA + Retinovir = effects its metabolism
MDMA + MAO inhibitor = severe overdose resulting in death
MDMA + Carvedilol = inhibits the cardiostimulant and thermogenic effects of MDMA .
