MIANSERIN

Description:
It is a psychoactive drug of tetracyclic antidepressant class.
It is classified as a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant.
It has an anxiolytic, antidepressant, hypnotic, noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant etc. effect.

PHARMACOKINETICS
Metabolism: hepatic
Half life: 21-61 hrs.
Excretion: renal (4-7%),fecal (14-28%)

USES
Antidepressant
Anxiolytic
Hypnotics hence can be used in insomnia.
Parkinson’s disease, psychosis.

ADVERSE EFFECTS
Constipation
Dry mouth
Drowsiness
Tremor
Headache
Vertigo

DRUG INTERACTION
MIANSERIN + QUINIDINE = Raise the plasma concentration of mianserin
