Mianserin-Antidepressant drug


MIANSERIN

 Description:
• It is a psychoactive drug of tetracyclic antidepressant class.
• It is classified as a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant.
• It has an anxiolytic, antidepressant, hypnotic, noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant etc. effect.

 PHARMACOKINETICS
• Metabolism: hepatic
• Half life: 21-61 hrs.
• Excretion: renal (4-7%),fecal (14-28%)

USES
• Antidepressant
• Anxiolytic
• Hypnotics hence can be used in insomnia.
• Parkinson’s disease, psychosis.

 ADVERSE EFFECTS
• Constipation
• Dry mouth
• Drowsiness
• Tremor
• Headache
• Vertigo

DRUG INTERACTION
• MIANSERIN + QUINIDINE = Raise the plasma concentration of mianserin
