PIOGLITAZONE
MECHANISM OF ACTION-
It tends reverse insulin resistance by enhancing GLUT4 expression and translocation.
USES-
1. Oral anti-daiabetic
2. Lowers serum triglyceraldehyde level
3. Increases HDL
SIDE EFFECTS-
1. Plasma vo
lume expansion
2. Edema
3. Weight gain
4. Headache
5. Mild anaemia
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION-
It reduces blood glucose and HbA1c without increasing circulating insulin.
It is used as a supplement to SUD/Metformin.
DRUG-DRUG INTERACTION-
Pioglitazone + Rifampin = induce metabolism of pioglitazone
Pioglitazone + Ketoconazole = inhibit metabolism of pioglitazone
