METYRAPONE
INTRODUCTION
It is an inhibitor of the enzyme steroid 11 beta monooxygenase. It is used as a test of the feedback hypothalamic pituitary mechanisms in the diagnosis of Cushing syndrome.
PHARMACOKINETIC
Absorption = Rapidly and well absorbed orally
Metabolism = Hepatic , Conjugation with glucuronide
USE
? It is used to test if pituitary is sending proper signals to your adrenal glands.
SIDE EFFECTS
? Dizziness, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, stomach pain, allergic reactions
DRUG DRUG INTERACTIONS
? Metyrapone+Acetaminophen = serum concentration of Acetaminophen increases
? Metyrapone+Aripiprazole = serum concentration decreases of Aripiprazole
? Metyrapone+Phosphenytoin = serum concentration of Metyrapone decreases
? Metyrapone+Hydrocodone = serum concentration of hydrocodone decreases
? Metyrapone=Phenytoin = serum concentration of Metyrapone decrease
