Meperidine- drugs acting on CNS


                                                          MEPERIDINE
Description: It is primarily a kappa-opiate receptor agonist and also has local anesthetic effects. It is a narcotic analgesic.
CLASS-PHENYLPIPERIDINES

Uses : Short term treatment of moderate to sever pain, used before or during surgery, during labor and delivery.

Adverse Drug Reactions: Muscle twitching or jerking, painful urination, sweating, tightness in the chest, confusion, fainting, dizziness, upper abdominal or stomach pain.

Drug-Drug Interactions: 
 Mepiridine  + duloxetine                 
                      + ondansetron=increase the risk of Serotonin syndrome
Mepiridine + alprazolam=increases side effects such as drowsiness, confusion, low blood pressure
