MESTRANOL
Description: The 3-methyl ether of ethinyl estradiol. It must be demethylated to be biologically active. It is used as an estrogen component of many combination oral contraceptives.
CLASS-ESTRANE STEROIDS
Uses: As oral contraceptives
Adverse Drug Reactions: Headache, bloating, breast tenderness, weight change, vaginal bleeding between periods(spotting)
Drug-Drug Interactions:
Mestranol + Abciximab= anticoagulant activity of abciximab is decreased
Mestranol + Anthrax immune globulin= thrombogenic activity increased
Mestranol + batimastat/ +bexarotene= serum concentration of mestranol is decreased
