PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION :
It is a non steroidal antiandrogen . It exerts its antiandrogenic action by inhibiting androgen uptake or by inhibiting nuclear binding of androgen in target tissues or both.
MECHANISM OF ACTION :
It is a non steroidal anti androgen that blocks the action of exogenous and endogenous testosterone by binding to the androgen receptor . In addition it is a potent inhibitor
of testosterone stimulated prostatic DNA synthesis.
SIDE EFFECTS :
- It has hepatotoxic potential.
- Causes breast tenderness and gynaecomastia .
DRUG DRUG INTERACTION:
1. Flutamide + abiraterone =serum concentration may be
increased.
2. Flutamide +bortizomib= metabolism of flutamide can be
decreased.
THERAPEUTIC USES:
For the management of locally confined stage B2 –C and stage D2 metastatic carcinoma of prostate.
