MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Its antipsychotic effects are caused by D2 and or 5HT-2 antagonism ,whereas its antidepressant effects at lower doses may be mediated by prefrential d2/d3

autoreceptor blocakde ,resulting in increased post synaptic activation.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIONS:
1. CNS
In a normal individual CPZ produces indifference to surroundings ,paucity of thought .
In psychotic individual , reduces irrational behaviour ,agitaton,and controls psychotic symptomatology.
2. LOCAL ANAESTHETIC
It is not used for this purpose because of its irritant action.
3.CVS
Neuroleptics produce hypotension by a central as well as peripheral action.
SIDE EFFECTS:
- Muscle rigidity
- Hypokinesia
- Hyperkinesia
- Parkinsonism
- Tremor
