MECHANISM OF ACTION
It binds with the mineralo corticoid receptor which causes increase in ions and water transport and thus raises extracellular fluid volume, blood pressure and lowers potassium leve .
THERAPEUTIC USES
- Used in treatment of cerebral salt wasting syndrome
- Used primarily to replace the missing hormone aldosterone in adrenal insufficiency
- It is a conformation test for diagnosing conn’s syndrome
SIDE EFFECTS
- Sodium and water retention
- Edema
- Hypertension
- Increased hair growth
- hypokalemia
- insomenia
DRUG DRUG INTERACTION
1) Fludrocortisone+ amino salicylic acid=risk of it’s adverse effects increases
