Ethionamide-antitubercular drug and its pharmacology

MECHANISM OF ACTION


Ethionamide may be bacteriostatic or bactericidal in action, depending on the concentration of the drug attained at the site of infection and the susceptibility of the infecting organism. It is a nicotinic acid derivative. It undergoes intracellular modification and acts similar to isonazid. Isonazide inhibits the syntonent of the bacterial cell wall.hesis of mucoloic acids.


DRUG DRUG INTERACTION
CYCLOSERINE: The risk or severity of adverse effect can be increased when Ethionamide is combined with Cycloserine.
ETHANOL: : The risk or severity of adverse effect can be increased when Ethionamide is combined with ethanol.

Pain in chest or tightness

Swollen gland in the neck or armpit

THERAPEUTIC USES
Treating Tuberculosis infection in combination with other medicines
It is an antibacterial agent
It inhibits or stops the growth of TB cell
