Galantamine - drugs acting on ans and its therapeutic uses


It is an alkaloid obtained synthetically or from the bulbs or flowers of Galanthus caucasius.
PHARMACOKINETIC
Absorption:  well absorbed orally.
Metabolism: partially hepatic. 
Excretion: renal.
Half life: 7 hrs.

THERAPEUTIC USES
It is used in treatment of dementia caused by Alzheimer’s disease.
Treatment of mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

ADVERSE EFFECTS
Bradycardia
Syncope (fainting).
Seizures
Bleeding in stomach and intestine.
