Furazolidone-antimicrobial drug and its therapeutic uses


INTRODUCTION
A nitrofuran derivative with antiprotozoal and anti bacterial activity.Furazolidone binds bacterial DNA which leads to the gradual inhibition of monoamine oxidase.

 PHARMACOKINETICS
Half life= 10 minutes

THERAPEUTIC USES
o   Used In the treatment of diarrhea
o   Used in treating Traveller diarrhea

o   Used to treat Cholera and Salmonella

SIDE EFFECTS

o   Abdominal or stomach pain
o   Diarrhoea
o   Headache
o   Nausea, vomiting
