Ethambutol-Antitubercular drug and its pharmacology

MECHANISM OF ACTION
Ethambutol inhibits arabinosyl transferases which is involved in cell wall biosynthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme, the bacterial cell wall complex production is inhibited. This leads to an increase in cell wall permeability.

DRUG DRUG INTERACTION
ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE: Aluminum hydroxide can cause a decrease in the absorption of Ethambutol resulting in a reduced serum concentration and potentially a decrease in efficacy.
