NIFEDIPINE

NIFEDIPINE:
MECHANISM OF ACTION-

•    It’s a prototype DHP with a rapid onset of action with short duration.
•    It’s a calcium channel blocker.
•    In body tissue cells concentration of calcium outside is 10000 folds higher than the calcium present inside of the cell and they’re embedded in some cell membrane called calcium channels.
•    When these channels receive some signals they get open resulting into the entering of calcium inside the cell.
•    Calcium channel blockers narrows the opening of these membranes thus reduce the amount of calcium inside the cell.
•    Nifedipine have nonspecific activity towards voltage-dependent calcium channels.
